About the
Byron Society

 

The Byron Society was re-founded in London on 22 January 1971 through the energies of a number of well-known Byronists and especially through the activity of Elma Dangerfield O.B.E. who remains the Hon. Director of the Byron Society in London. Soon it had initiated the Byron Journal (from 1973), and an international conference (annually from 1974) from which an International Council was set up (1976). Numerous independent Byron Societies throughout the world form a confederation known as The International Byron Society. In the United Kingdom, for instance, there is a Newstead Abbey Byron Society. The flourishing Byron Society of America (housed at the University of Delaware together with the new Byron Society Collection) is about to get its own website. Professor Charles Robinson produces an excellent circular of information about events of interest to Byronists in the United States and elsewhere. The Byron Society based in London runs an extensive series of lectures and social events. Details of next year's programme will soon be announced on this site.
